I had an acrylic painting that I did - on which I used crackle paint for the first time - I put too thin of a layer of crackle paint on the picture and it obliterated the image - it was as if the boat was in a dense fog - and the crackle features were so small that they were really un-noticeable - I decided to see what I could do to improve on the image - first, I took a dremel and sanded off a good portion of the crackle paint and sanded some parts of the image down to the first layer of paint - I then applied inks and acrylic paint to highlight some portions of the image (that is why I call this rescue art)
